Novel in Progress: Sands of Qatal

Just once before she dies, Lieutenant Touraine would like the luxury of choice. She didn’t choose to become a soldier for the empire. She didn’t choose to come back home to stop a rebellion. If it means she’ll rank up and have a say over her life, though, she’ll shoot her way through the rebels even if they’re family. Orders are orders.

Well…mostly.

SANDS OF QATAL is a 90,000-word flintlock fantasy standalone with sequel potential. As a finalist in the Speculative Literature Foundation’s Diverse Worlds/Writers contest, a juror called it “a densely plotted thriller with genuine stakes…a great hook…a depiction of colonialism that’s so insidious…. I love the sense of consequences, large and small, and the complexity of the characters.”
